8-Bit Tarot #57: King of Swords
August 15, 2008

At long last,

And the original:

Only 21 more to go, and the next two are Majors: The Hanged Man, followed by The Devil. I confess, The Devil is the one I've been really looking forward to doing. I'm just saying.

Portland Zine Symposium, 8/23-8/24
August 13, 2008

The Portland Zine Symposium is coming up in about a week-and-a-half, and always has a lot of interesting minicomics, zines and one-of-a-kind art objects. And this year, it also has me!

I'll be tabling at the Symposium this year, handing out Calling Cards and postcards to promote Ellie Connelly, selling my comics and buttons, and I'll also have the latest pack of Tarot cards there at the table. So if you're planning on going, stop by and say Hi! I'd love to see you!

The Zine Symposium is Saturday and Sunday, August 23-24 at the Smith Memorial Ballroom (third floor) at Portland State University. It starts at 10:am both days, and admission appears to be free.

My Comicon Prize
July 31, 2008

For all my griping about Comicon, I did meet a couple goals, including the purchase of another prize piece of original art for my tiny but awesome collection. This time, I scored a Walt Kelly Pogo original, dated 6/11/1965. The character renderings are great, it's a very clean piece, and I even thought the joke was pretty timely.

And what's more, I managed to find a frame that fits it perfectly just tonight at the local Frederick Meyer! So, a double win, I think. Enjoy!

Home from Comicon
July 31, 2008

Got home from Comicon Monday night, and have been mostly sleeping/groggy/sickly ever since. There isn't much to report on the con itself. I had some good mealtime conversations with people, and too many late night drinks.

I came away from comicon this year thinking more about the experiences I didn't have - the people I didn't get to talk to, the panels I missed due to lines and raffle tickets, the gatherings I didn't know were happening. I went to more of the parties this year than last time I went, though i realize now that the parties were really not what I wanted to be doing. So, lesson learned, I suppose. Something to keep in mind for next year.

Oh, yes, next year? I'll be there, and hopefully exhibiting at my own table, promoting my own comic and selling sketches and buttons and tarot cards and whatnot. I mean, if I'm not going to be able to get into the panels anyway, I might as well have something to show for it when it's all over, right?

My San Diego Plans
July 21, 2008

Hey! Did you hear? There's this comics convention going on down in San Diego this week?

Yeah, so I'm going to SDCC again, after skipping the last couple. I don't have a table, I'm not speaking on any panels, I don't even really have much of a gameplan other than catching up with a few old friends, camping at a couple booths from time to time, trying to catch a few panels (especially the SPACED panel and screening on friday!) and maybe buy a book or two from some friends.

In a perfect world, I'd have had Ellie started up six months ago and would be going to SDCC to promote the webcomic and to meet with potential publishers about a book deal. I think I'll have to save that for next year, though.

Ellie Connelly begins!
July 21, 2008

I don't really have much to say about it that I haven't already said, or that I won't say at some point soon, but I'd be remiss in not mentioning that Ellie Connelly has officially begun! Go, check it out, and don't forget to come back on friday when I post the second episode! whee!
